Special issues: The annual "Year In Science" issue (January/February) highlights the top 100 science stories of the previous year.
Background: A relocation a year ago from New York City to the Milwaukee area and a new editorial team gives Discover magazine a startup vibe, which editor-in-chief Stephen C. George said has been "a great experience." According to Discover's newly revised mission statement, the magazine sets out to provide content that informs, inspires and entertains people who love science.
George described the magazine as sitting comfortably between Scientific American and Popular Science. "We're science for people who have a deep, abiding love [for] and curiosity [about] science -- and we want to serve that need," he said. Yet, he added, "We're not necessarily just for scientists. We shine the light on the people making the breakthroughs possible -- as well as the breakthroughs themselves."
