With first-quarter 2009 figures in the books, media watchers took a quantitative look at the industry's finances this week, and the results weren't pretty: Consumer magazines saw ad pages fall 25.9 percent and revenue drop more than 20 percent. Newspapers suffered a worse fate, with industry analysts spurring a New York Times reporter to write, "It is clear that once again, even the most pessimistic predictions were not dark enough."
