One internationally published novelist shows how her travels lend perspective and depth to her work

Paris is novelist Kristin Harmel's favorite place to write. Living within view of the Eiffel Tower several years ago and traveling abroad annually has inspired her books The Art of French Kissing (5 Spot, 2008) and Italian for Beginners (5 Spot, 2009) and allowed her to become an expert guest for Good Morning America, Fox, & Friends, and the Daily Buzz.

With a flair for creative book tours, the author recently partnered with T-shirt designer Amy Tangerine and musician Jerry Cherry, who plays guitar as a soloist and with Chubby Checker. At 30, Harmel is ghostwriting the musical legend's autobiography, publishing the teen book After (Delacorte Press/Random House) in February, and completing her 10th year of writing for People, where she specializes in "hero" stories.
