Background: Mariner, the official magazine of Holland America Line published by Story Worldwide originated as a 30-plus-page piece of direct mail just for "Mariners" -- past guests of Holland America Line cruises. Mariner contains 66 pages, offering many opportunities to freelancers, said editor-in-chief Chuck Thompson.
While Mariner's main M.O. is to "generate brand loyalty and excitement about HAL products and destinations, provide relevant brand information and increase bookings," the editorial content parallels that of top consumer travel publications. "Mariner engages Holland America Line's premium and returning passengers with a mix of cruise line service information, alongside literate travel narrative, world-class photography and high-level design and production," said Thompson.
