Station name: WNYC Background: Reaching about 1.2 million listeners, WNYC is New York City's largest public radio station, offering news, information and cultural programming. The station produces several local programs including The Brian Lehrer Show, Leonard Lopate, and Soundcheck in addition to several national shows such as On the Media, Radiolab, and The Takeaway, which are picked up by public radio stations throughout the country. WNYC is independent and works in collaboration with several partners including NPR, PRI and BBC.
According to John Keefe, senior executive producer for news, the station focuses on news that is of civic importance, interesting and meaningful to citizens. "We aim to be as comprehensive and uniquely in-depth as we can be," Keefe says.
