IAC Gets a New Leader; Elle, Woman's Day Up for Sale

Barry Diller steps down as CEO of IAC. He'll remain chairman and senior executive, and still owns as much as 41 percent of the voting stock, however, so he's not exactly going away. Greg Blatt, CEO of, replaces the head, known for his lavish spending ways. What does the move mean for the Newsweek/The Daily Beast merger? Not much, according to Sidney Harman, although there will be some staff changes. It looks like Rebecca Dana will inherit Newsweek's front-of-book section. She's currently a senior correspondent at TDB. The future of current FOB editor, Bret Begun, remains in doubt...

Hearst could buy Lagardere Active's U.S. magazine group that includes Elle, Woman's Day, and others. Elle international is on the block along with Lagardere SCA's other magazine properties... It's finally official: Dan Shulman, Orel Hershiser, and Bobby Valentine inherit the Sunday Night Baseball booth from Jon Miller and Joe Morgan... CBS names ESPN veteran David Berson as executive vice president of CBS Sports and president of CBS Sports Network. He had been executive vice president of programming, planning, and strategy for the Worldwide Leader... Oprah Winfrey denies that her cable network had talks with outgoing CBS executive Terry Wood -- which, of course, likely means we'll be reporting on Wood's hire in mere weeks... Jezebel sells two titles to Grand Central Publishing. Tracie Egan Morrissey and Rich Juzwiak will author Pot Psychology while Anna Holmes will helm the tentatively titled The Book of Jezebel. Expect more of this type of thing as Nick Denton continues in his quest to take over the world... Claire Lui will edit Parade's Debbie Menin takes to AOL where she'll serve as head of marketing, entertainment... taps Aria Hughes as editorial assistant and social media coordinator...
