The Ann Curry era on the Today show begins with a bang. Or at least it begins. Meredith Vieira's replacement had her first show in the co-anchor chair, and things went splendidly (aside from a flub at the beginning). Her chemistry with Matt Lauer was strong, and she handled the switch with aplomb. Better yet, she landed an interview with President Barack Obama that will air next week. The exclusive will focus on the economy and the 2012 election. Curry's replacements are fitting in as well with Natalie Morales and Savannah Guthrie finding their roles...

The San Francisco Examiner continues to hire male staffers. Specifically, nine of the last, um, nine newsroom hires have been men, "white men, that is." Melissa Griffin is the paper's only female columnist left... Former New York Times columnist Bob Herbert joins Demos, a national research and policy center, as distinguished senior fellow. He will pen the blog while continuing to write his book, Wounded Colossus...

Elle hires Brendan Cummings as research editor. He previously freelanced for the magazine... Time recruits Heather Jones as infographic designer. She was a freelance illustrator and iPad designer... William Pelkey leaves Prevention for Details. He had been production director and will stay in the same role at his new job... Former Uptown publisher Jocelyn R. Taylor joins VIVmag...

Anderson Cooper's new daytime show gets an executive producer. Lisa Morin, who previously worked on The Oprah Winfrey Show, comes on board. She'll team with former Good Morning America senior EP Jim Murphy...

Politico Pro is swinging for the fences. The publication grabs Matt DoBias from the National Journal. According to editor Tim Grieve, the site "has become the dominant, go-to source for anyone interested in the implementation of health care reform across the country."... The Washington Times names Ed Kelley as editor... Meredith promotes a bunch of executives...

Ted Mellnik joins The Washington Post. The "seasoned computer-assisted reporting specialist" spent the last 30 years at The Charlotte Observer. He joins the WaPo graphics department... Jason Dick moves to Roll Call as House editor. He previously worked as editor of National Journal Daily and will be replaced by Matthew Cooper... And there are changes at MSNBC, Weber Shandwick and more...
