David Cho left his post as publisher of The Awl to join Grantland, the longform sports journalism (and much-hyped) site launched by ESPN's Bill Simmons, as director of business development. Cho wrote, "The opportunity at Grantland and to work with Bill and to work with some of the people at ESPN is the only job that ever could have made me even consider leaving what Choire [Sicha] and Alex [Balk] and myself have built at The Awl." The New York Observer reported that a successor to Cho has been chosen and is "totally awesome"…

The end of the long Fourth of July weekend brought with it several TV folks moving to bigger markets. Among them: Josh Egbert heads to Hastings/Lincoln, Neb., to report and fill in as anchor for KHAS… Navideh Forghani leaves her post as anchor/reporter in Augusta, Ga., to join Phoenix's KNXV… Jay Tust switches Idaho stations, becoming a sports reporter and anchor at KTVB in Boise… and Chris Miles is moving to the Big Easy's WDSU after serving as a weekend sports anchor in Roanoke, Va.…

In the magazine world, Robert Newman is named creative director at Reader's Digest, after serving as consulting creative director… Former ELLE public relations coordinator Corie Rosenberg joins Hearst Magazines as associate manager of PR… New Shape Magazine deputy editor Michelle Stacey comes from Whole Living magazine, where she was acting executive editor… Vanity Fair bumps contributor James Reginato up to writer-at-large… Christa Lee joins People StyleWatch as editorial assistant from Glamour, where she was a freelance beauty assistant… Former Parents and American Baby account manager Erin Rijo lands director stripes at Redbook

Apparently, 225 MySpace employees are worth just one pop star, as the social (music?) network cleans house and adds Justin Timberlake, who is also now one of the site's owners as part of the Specific Media deal, as creative consultant… Ashton Kutcher wages a Twitter war with Village Voice just as the paper avoids a strike with its employee union… CollegeHumor.com announces the promotion of Streeter Seidell to editor-in-chief from executive editor… Moxie Interactive goes on a hiring spree, promoting Alyse Schwartz to executive vice president of account planning, from senior VP, and adding eight more to its staff… And there are changes at Open Road Integrated Media, Univision, and more
