The return of Martha; Hearst and HGTV join forces

Martha Stewart is back. On the board of her company, that is. The founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. rejoins the executive committee earlier than expected. She resigned seven and a half years ago as an insider trading scandal that would eventually send her to jail started to come to light. "Martha's participation is indispensable to shaping the company's future and creating value for our shareholders," Charlotte Beers, chairman of the nominating and corporate governance committee, said. "Martha inspires all of us on the board, our company employees, shareholders and consumers as she continues to define the brand and help further build the company's foundation for the future." Stewart already regained the title of chief editorial, media and content officer last year but part of her deal with the SEC barred her from taking a board spot for five years...

Hearst Magazines teams with HGTV for HGTV Magazine. Former Coastal Living editor-in-chief Sara Peterson will head the publication with Jeanne Noonan Eckholdt, executive director of Hearst Home Group, handling the publishing duties. The book will try to mimic the success of the massively profitable Food Network Magazine... Outside poaches Bryan Kinkade from Condé Nast. He'll be associate publisher and work from the company's New York office... Time Inc. continues to search for a CEO, and its committee is looking beyond the building. Names in the running include Wenda Millard, Tom Freston and Richard Zannino...

Irin Carmon leaves Jezebel for She'll cover culture and politics for the rebranding organization... The Hollywood Reporter lands a bold-faced name as Lake Bell joins the crew as automotive contributing editor. She is penning the "Test Drive" column... Lan Yin Bachelis is the new creative director at Health. She comes from Women's Health...

Erin Burnett is back. Well, almost. Her new show, Erin Burnett OutFront, will debut on CNN October 3 at 7 p.m. She previously worked at CNBC, but her new program will focus more on news than business. "Younger people want their news in a livelier format," she told the AP. Left unsaid: That "livelier format" might not be television at all... Is America's Next Top Model shuffling its celebrity panel? Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Tally could be leaving with Kelly Cutrone taking his place. Leon Tally joined four years ago as a replacement for Paulina Porizkova...

Buddy Media continues its impressive growth, hiring Ken Mandel as managing director of Asia and Carla Bourque as senior vice president of Western region sales. The company, which helps companies build their social media presences, also opens offices in San Francisco and Singapore... Jeff Verkoeyen, the man who built Facebook's iPad app, leaves for Google. He is reportedly frustrated with the lack of progress the social network is making in releasing the app. If nothing else, it's good news for Google. Usually, talent goes the other way... Ramsey McGrory takes over as CEO of Clearspring. He had been president of Yahoo Right Media until very recently... Chelsea Clinton -- yes, her -- joins the IAC board... And there are changes at Elle Decor, Open Forum and more...
