Wolff Walks Out; New Hires To Wake Up Early

October 18, 2011
It's over. Michael Wolff is out at AdWeek. Executive editor Jim Cooper takes over the magazine and the site. The rumors have been flying for a month or so, but Hamilton Nolan was eerily prescient this entire time. Wolff and the trade world just didn't mesh. He fought with Jimmy Finkelstein about where AdWeek was headed. So Wolff is out at Prometheus Global Media. (The magazine also loses Hillary Frey to Yahoo where she'll be managing editor of news. Is that a bigger hit for the publication?) Presumably, Wolff will soon find a place to land softly. (Could the delay in his departure be due to the creation of an exit strategy?)...

The Early Show hires Sharon Hoffman as senior producer. John Peck also joins as supervising producer and Ryan Kadro gets a promotion from supervising producer to senior producer. The program also recruits John Miller. He previously was a deputy to the government's director of national intelligence and will play a big role reporting and commenting on "homeland security, law enforcement and other matters."... Senior vice president Carrie Frazier and vice president Amy Jo Berman leave HBO as the network shutters its casting department...

John Gruden signs on to five more years at ESPN. He'll stay in the Monday Night Football booth... Carla Carpenter steps in as senior VP of digital media for the ABC Owned Television Stations Group... Natalie Morales is the latest big name to join Brian Williams on his new show...

The New York Daily News loses Stuart Marques. The senior managing editor joined in 2007 but seems to be a victim of the increased focus on the Web... Andy Sareyan joins the National Journal as president and executive vice president of Atlantic Media Group. Sareyan will help jump start revenues... Hearst Corporation hires Wenning Xing to helm its new Beijing corporate office... Vevo hires editorial director Jim Macnie. The massive YouTube channel will looks to expand its impressive content offerings... And there are changes at Pandora, Martini Media and more...
