From Paper Boy To President; Staffers Flee Rodale

January 20, 2012
Newsday publisher Fred Groser takes over as president of Newsday Media Group. He replaces Terry Jimenez, who "decided to move on" after seven years in the company. His replacement worked a Newsday paper route back in the day. (Awwww!) "Fred's extensive business experience, knowledge of our marketplace, sales acumen and sense of humor make him a terrific leader to carry us into the future," Cablevision local media president Tad Smith wrote in a memo to staff announcing the news...

A whole host of top-level staffers have left Rodale in the past year because they can't stand working with Maria Rodale. Fortune execs at least a dozen New York-based names who were left or fired in 2011... Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia installs Peter Medwid as senior vice president and publisher of Martha Stewart Living, and Christina Cranley in the same position at Everyday Food and Whole Living... Marina Khidekel and Emma Rosenblum receive promotions from articles editors to senior editors at Glamour... Former Yahooer Brad Feldman lands as Time Inc. Branded Solutions as executive director, integrated marketing and development director...

Thomas Redburn leaves his managing editor post at the International Herald Tribune to be The New York Times' international economics editor. Dave Smith, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his team's reporting of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, replaces him... Steven Slon is the new editorial director at The Saturday Evening Post, saying goodbye to AARP The Magazine where he was editor and vice president... Patrick Montero leaves his gig as supervising photo editor of the New York Daily News for a photo editor job at Organic Gardening... Fox moves Dan Harrison into outgoing Preston Beckman's executive vice president of scheduling spot... Kristin Thorne leaves WCBS/Channel 2 where she had been freelancing for a full-time gig with WABC/Channel 7...

Kevin Delaney is the latest staffer to depart WSJ.com. He jumps to the Atlantic Media Company as editor-in-chief of the soon-to-launch global business brand. He had been managing editor of the Journal's online efforts since 2009... Atlantic Digital continues its hiring streak, recruiting Jen Doll from the Village Voice's Runnin' Scared along with Matt Haber, John Metcalfe and Andrew Cohen... Emma Carmichael jumps from Deadspin to Gawker... Talking Points Memo promotes Callie Schweitzer to deputy publisher. "At TPM I've worked alongside publisher Josh Marshall learning the ins and outs of the publishing, business and tech side of the operation. Needless to say, I'm ecstatic about this opportunity!" she told FishbowlDC... And there are changes at Fitness, Wall Street Journal and more...
