|Back to Home > Content > How To Pitch > How To Pitch: VIBE Vixen|
Background: Only a few magazines have authentically represented the interests and lifestyles of black and brown women, and even fewer of those have been conceived to speak to the legions of book-and-street smart 20- and 30-somethings. Vibe Vixen is one of a few pubs to intelligently and sassily fill that editorial void with honest content and thoughtful but conversational writing. Launched as a print mag in the mid-2000's by Vibe, which itself went all digital in April 2013, Vixen became a website and is now standing on the verge of an editorial rebirth.
"When the climate in the industry changed, we decided to embrace the digital medium instead of fighting to produce print issues," said editor Shanel Odum, who was part of the original team who shaped the first print pub seven years ago. She very recently rejoined the ranks after it was purchased by Buzzmedia (now SpinMedia) to both redesign the site and produce an online version of the mag. According to her vision, big plans are in the works. "I can't say that right now it looks like what I want it to look like. We still want to give it the feel of a glossy, with the big, flashy cover story. And I want the covers and the features to have a print life cycle without expiring so quickly like so much of the digital content does."
