Background: Since its 1944 launch by media mogul Walter Annenberg, Seventeen has been among the American teenage girl's leading fashion and beauty magazines. One of the very first publications to track trends among the 12- to 19-year-old female demographic, the outlet has consistently translated that data into practical advice that attracts loyal readers and happy advertisers. From 1954 to 1970, publisher and editor Enid Haupt (Annenberg's sister) kept the publication current by catering to the droves of young women who were getting married straight out of high school. Haupt's column "Young Living" offered tips on meeting potential mates (Wife-wannabes could visit art museums and try the line, "What's chiaroscuro?"), hosting successful parties and efficiently managing a household. ...
