Can WaPo's Downie Be Taken At His No Layoffs Word?

So, will The Washington Post start laying off staffers shortly or won't
they? The former was strongly suggested by The New York Times' David
Carr in a Monday column, only to be directly rebutted in an intentionally
leaked memo by WaPo editor Len Downie, who listed wanting "to
quash any stupid, false rumors like this one" as one of the objectives of
Thursday's staff meeting. Women's Wear Daily then called Carr to ask what he
meant, exactly, by "layoffs," only to be told that a clarification was in the
offing (which has since been appended to Carr'...
