As someone who isn't in the demo for parenting magazines, we've occasionally wondered whether Meredith needed to own both Child and Parents. What did the former cover that the latter didn't? Apparently Meredith execs were wondering the same thing, and didn't like their conclusions: the company shut down the former (which arrived as part of the 2005 acquisition of Gruner + Jahr) on Tuesday, laying off approximately 30 staffers, while tossing in another 30 from across the company for good measure... Only a few blocks away, American Media axed 20 people this week, including a dozen at Star, as the publishing ...
