Another pair bites the dust: Condé Nast pulled the plug on Jane yesterday just as it killed Mademoiselle shortly after 9/11. (Ironic observers will note that the failure of that magazine was once blamed on Jane Pratt herself.) Also gone before its time (or even before its launch, really): Bauer's Cocktail Weekly, yet another frothy fusion of Us Weekly and Glamour priced at less than $2. (Apparently Bauer couldn't line up distributors.) The ensuing carnage claimed 60 staffers at Jane, including editor-in-chief Brandon Holley, publisher Carlos Lamadrid, and everyone unable to find a job elsewhere within Condé.
