In yet another mobile-related move, Google late last week acquired assets and technology from social mobile service provider Zingku, MediaPost reports.

Zingku's services are free and, until now, have been offered through a private beta--"which allows users to share cell phone photos with friends and family through texting, access online blog posts sent to their cell phones as text messages, and poll friends via text message."

Google is scrambling to catch up with Facebook and MySpace on the social networking side of things. This latest move looks to be an attempt to head them off at the pass, at least on cellphones if not on the desktop. It also jives well with their recent efforts to create another ad revenue stream on mobile.
