Welcome to The Press List, our weekly newsletter alerting you to upcoming media events worth knowing about. Summer weather finally arrived this weekend on the East Coast, and our calendar is also heating up with a slew of parties, panels, and readings.

mediabistro.com hosts events all around the country this week: Further West, we're throwing cocktail parties in Chicago and Denver. Here in New York, we're hosting a party for PRNewser and a kickoff event for the Digital Downtown conference. As always, these will be great opportunities to meet other uber-engaged media pros, all while scoring great drink specials.

For those of you craving an informational deep dive this week, several interesting discussions are slated to occur: On Tuesday CNN money man Ali Velshi will discuss his book Gimme My Money Back: Your Guide to Beating the Financial Crisis at the New York Press Club. We imagine that many journalists dealing with layoffs and low pay will be interested in hearing what he has to say. On Thursday, The Daily Beast's Tina Brown will talk with author Frances Osborne at Strand Book Store. Later that night, Gothamist publisher Jake Dobkin, Outside.in's Mark Josephson, and New York Times blogger Andy Newman will lead a panel on hyperlocal journalism, fittingly located in the blog-saturated borough of Brooklyn.

Last week, we went to a bevy of Internet Week events, starting with Mediabistro Circus on Tuesday and Wednesday. A highlight was the moving talk given by Keith Ferrazzi (author of newly-anointed New York Times bestseller Who's Got Your Back?) on the value of quality over quantity in mentoring relationships. On Thursday, we went to Thrillist's "The Internet is Out of Control" bash, where we partied with URLesque editor Kelly Reeves, Kate Miltner from the New York Social Media Roundtable, and Thrillist co-founder Ben Lerer. We also saw CollegeHumor's Ricky Van Veen, who was still wearing his badge from the exclusive Founders Club event held earlier that night. We guess Van Veen couldn't resist showing off that he'd been hobnobbing with fellow founders including mediabistro.com's own Laurel Touby, News Corp's Rupert Murdoch, IAC boss Barry Diller, and Gawker publisher Nick Denton.

Friday, we went to the Webutante Ball accompanied by Meredith Woerner of io9.com. At the ball, we spotted Gawker weekend editor Foster Kamer, and NonSociety blogger Julia Allison. CollegeHumor's Amir Blumenfeld and Sarah Schneider were crowned king and queen after some shrewd polling manipulation. Strangely, we also saw two uniformed police officers mingling with the Webutantes. We tried asking the cops why they felt the need to show up to patrol a party full of Internet geeks, but they referred us to the NYPD public affairs office in lieu of giving a quote. [Ed. Note: We'll be sure to get right on that...] Event organizers Richard Blakeley and Jessica Amason were much more talkative. Blakeley told us that his so-called "Internet prom" was "just like high school, except nobody got pregnant." We'll be rechecking this fact in a few months...

In the meantime, we'll be back next Monday to forecast which upcoming media events you'll want to know about and regale you with what went down at the prior week's hottest happenings. Be sure to check out 'Conferences, Etc.' and 'Beyond New York' for media events beyond the five boroughs in Denver, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C...
