Atlantic Media To Pay All Interns, Even Retroactively

Hooray! Atlantic Media, publisher of The Atlantic and National Journal has decided to pay all its interns “with actual money,” DailyFinance reported yesterday.

Atlantic Media was apparently inspired by Saturday’s New York Times story about the number of interns working for free in the city. “We had thought this was the way to structure unpaid internships but if it sits near a grey zone, it’s not for us,” Atlantic Media told DailyFinance.

Atlantic’s internship program is new—the first class began in summer 2009 with about 30 then unpaid interns. Those kids all will get back pay thanks to Atlantic Media’s decision.

This place is becoming more and more attractive by the minute; we’ve also heard that the intern-to-fulltime-job ratio is incredibly high there.
