2013Even though the monthly jobs report was absent this morning as a result of the government shutdown, per a new survey published by CareerBuilder, numbers show a decent amount of employers looking to add headcount.

Per the survey, one in four employers wants to add full-time headcount in the fourth quarter. This is spot on compared to last year. Specific industries will outpace the national average for hiring in the realm of information technology, manufacturing and financial services. And yes, we double-checked to see if media fell in this category but alas, it didn’t.

As per hiring numbers for the quarter ending September 30, 28 percent of employers added full-time employees. This is slightly down from last year’s numbers which raked in at 32 percent. On the other end, 11 percent of employers reduced their forces in comparison to 12 percent this time last year.Per the press release, Matt Ferguson, CEO of CareerBuilder, explained:

“Consistent hiring has been the theme throughout this jobs recovery. Economic concerns are still looming. Some headlines in the news need to play themselves out before employers fully mobilize to create a more active job market. Companies will continue to produce an even stream of new jobs in the fourth quarter as they assess their positioning and prospects for the coming year.”

As per those prospects, regionally the west remains a bright spot regarding hiring plans. The south experienced the most significant decrease in employers anticipating ramping up their recruiting efforts. The northeast and midwest remained similar to last year since 23 percent of employers in the survey pointed out they’ll add full-time staff in this quarter.
