CareerCast Announces Most Stressful Jobs of 2014: Newspaper Reporter & PR Exec Make the List

noThis just in…CareerCast has released its list of the most stressful jobs of 2014 and let’s just say it does not look pretty. The obvious ones made their list such as firefighter and enlisted military personnel for their high stakes situations. Unfortunately for us, newspaper reporter and public relations executive made the list, too.

Per the site, they’re on the list due to the tight deadlines and scrutiny of the public eye. Public relations ranked sixth on the list with a median salary of $54,170 and projected job growth of 21 percent. The eighth spot went to newspaper reporters with a median salary of $35,870 and projected job growth of negative 6 percent. Ahem.

CareerCast Names Newspaper Reporter as Worst Job in 2013

CareerCast has released their annual worst jobs list and drumroll please…newspaper reporter has landed in the numero uno spot.

Chalking it up to a high stress job with tight deadlines and competition with competing online Web sites, unfortunately the list underscores the shrinking newsroom. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in the job growth category the number of jobs is anticipated to drop by six percent by 2020.

Publicist, Photojournalist & Newspaper Reporter Rated Among Top 10 Most Stressful Jobs of 2013

CareerCast.com released their list of the top 10 occupations with the most stress this year and public relations executives, photojournalists and newspaper reporters landed in the top 10!

Other occupations on the list included enlisted military personnel, military general, commercial airline pilot, firefighter, senior corporate executive, taxi driver, and police officer.

Several metrics were calculated to encompass a jobs rated stress score. For instance, travel, working in the public eye, physical demand and danger were among them. In particular, photojournalists and newspaper reporters landed on the list since they may be thrust into a dangerous situation like war or natural disasters at a moment’s notice. Read more
