Gawker Buys Cityfile, Ousts Editor; Sun Sets on East West

For reasons he doesn't understand, Gabriel Snyderis out at Gawker. The move stems from Gawker Media's first-ever purchase. Nick Denton's company bought Cityfile and announced editor Remy Stern will take over as editor-in-chief of Gawker. (mediabistro.com's parent company, WebMediaBrands, also pursued Stern's site.) Denton offered Snyder a temporary position of assistant managing editor, but he smartly declined. In a post on Friday, the outgoing EIC discussed the site's record traffic and ended his inspired missive with the sentence, "So onward."
