Background: Wedged between the mouths of the rivers Dee and Don on the northeast coast of Scotland is the birthplace of the source for what matters in social media. According to editor-in-chief Adam Ostrow, Mashable began in 2005 when Web tech consultant Pete Cashmore began blogging about the latest social media news and new websites from his home in Aberdeen. Soon, Technorati was consistently ranking Mashable as one of its top 10 tech blogs. More accolades followed in 2007: The site was named a must-read by both Fast Company and PC Magazine, and BusinessWeek designated Mashable one of the world's most profitable blogs.

Today Mashable employs more than 25 people in its newly opened Manhattan office, and Ostrow says that its mission is to report on and explore the implications of "the latest innovations driving the evolution of the Web and how they're being leveraged." He says the site has also recently been covering mobile apps and "other connective devices."...
