The Daily finally launches on Jan. 19th. That date, of course, is barring any last-minute snafus. Steve Jobs will appear at the unveiling, joining Rupert Murdoch at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Staffers sound happy just to have a launch date after weeks of producing trial runs. The real work of making this thing financially solvent starts now...

MySpace lays off almost 500 staffers. The move, which involves almost half the company's employees (but a bit fewer than anticipated), is aimed at making MySpace more attractive to private equity firms...
