New Chief At Star; NYT Magazine Loses 'Ethicist'

April 27, 2012
David Pecker finally makes the long-rumored changes at the top of American Media. James Heidenry, a Maxim and Manhattan veteran, takes over the editor-in-chief role of Star after David Perel was bounced upstairs to executive vice president, digital. Tim Plant will serve as executive editor for the publication that hopes to broaden its readership base, according to Heidenry. Richard Spencer is the new Celebrity Magazine Group editorial director, a better spot for him since he doesn't have to be in the office every day. (He recently made waves as the absentee editor-in-chief of OK!.) Ryan Pienciak, the man who kept everything going day-to-day during Spencer's disappearance, is rewarded with the EIC role at OK! while Leah Ginsberg takes his executive editor slot...

The Washington Post loses reporter David Hilzenrath to the Project on Government Oversight where he will "lead the organization's investigations into government corruption, waste and abuse."... Investigative reporter James Grimaldi takes the buyout at the Washington Post. He's joining The Wall Street Journal as a senior writer. Not a bad move, really...
