Tumblr President Pays It Forward; Murdoch Deemed Unfit

May 1, 2012
Tumblr president John Maloney steps back from his day-to-day responsibilities. He will remain close to David Karp and the rest of the team, but wants to focus on hanging out with his family and "paying some things forward." He and the Tumblr founder first started working together eight years ago when Karp did some programming for Maloney's previous startup, UrbanBaby. (Karp was, impressively, 16 years old at the time.) Maloney jumped to Tumblr at Karp's request after CNET purchased UrbanBaby. The rest, as they say, is reblogged history...

Dana Bowen jumps from Saveur to Every Day with Rachael Ray where she'll be executive editor. She joined the food magazine in 2007 after a stint as a freelancer. Editor-in-chief Lauren Purcell praised her hire: "Her creative talent, rich background in publishing and passion for food, travel and lifestyle journalism will be a huge asset as we continue to expand our editorial content to best connect with readers."... Adam Mazmanian scores a new spot as technology correspondent at the National Journal... Charli James leaves Reuters for the Huffington Post's new Streaming Network...

Rupert Murdoch is not fit to lead News Corp. or any other major international corporation, according to a Parliamentary committee. No offense to the exalted MPs, but it's hard to think the Australian mogul gives a flying kangaroo what they think. (Perhaps the most interesting thing about the whole affair: How various networks covered the news. Fox News, not so much.)... Could Andrew Ross Sorkin be in trouble at CNBC's Squawk Box? It's a little too early to panic, but ratings are down three straight quarters and network executives are "freaking out."...

John Davis joins Pitch as creative director. He had been executive creative director of David&Goliath's European-based shops... Keith Ciampa loses his ECD position at Tribal DDB's San Francisco operation. He lasted eight months... Howard Schultz quits the Groupon board along with Accel Partners' Kevin Efrusy as the company's financials continue to tank... And there are changes at Spike TV, Sports Illustrated and more...
