The LA Times Is Hiring; Bonnier Adds MTV Exec

The Ford Foundation is now hiring reporters at the Los Angeles Times. Well, sort of. The non-profit gave the struggling paper a $1 million grant to hire five reporters covering "immigration and ethnic communities in Southern California, the California prison system, the Southwest border region and one of the most important international stories in our region, Brazil." There's no word on who the paper will tap but good for the Times and the Ford Foundation. LAT editor Davan Maharaj and his staff get complete control over the entire process. You hope this isn't the future, but it's good to see the paper getting some love...

Australian Vogue pushes out 13-year editor Kirstie Clements, replacing the former receptionist with Edwina McCann, editor of Harper's Bazaar's Australian edition. Two other NewsLifeMedia editors -- lifestyle group editor Mark Kelly and InsideOut editor Richard Waller -- were also shown the door... WWD wonders if T The New York Times Magazine editor Sally Singer is on the hot seat, as advertising pages are flat or declining while the rest of the fashion and luxury industry -- including rival WSJ. -- gain pages. Nothing to write home about yet, but keep an eye open... Bonnier hires Michael Alex as vice president of digital content strategy. He had been a consultant but served various roles at MTV for a decade and a half... Lucy Maher leaves Hearst for Conde Nast, where she takes over as Self's digital director...

U.S. News & World Report taps Elizabeth Flock as lead writer for the Washington Whispers blog, taking over for Paul Bedard. She was last seen resigning from the Washington Post after a blog post misattribution scandal that lead to a minor media uprising and a lot of hand wringing... San Diego CityBeat loses columnist Enrique Limon and arts & culture editor Kinsee Morlan. They both departed voluntarily, although budget cuts have affected staff morale...

Lucy Dalglish scores a deanship at the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism. She had been executive director at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press... Groupon, which is in the midst of a good week, hires Vinayak Hegde as vice president of engineering. He leaves Amazon, joining the company's growing number of ex-Amazonians that includes CFO Jason Child and Americas SVP Kal Raman... And there are changes at The Daily, Elle and more...
