How To Pitch: Brain, Child: The Magazine for Thinking Mothers

This parenting pub likes to take chances on new writers

By Brittany Shoot - October 5, 2012
The information in this article is current and accurate.

Circulation: 20,000
Frequency: Quarterly
Special issues: Summer 2013 will focus on mothers with teenage children; other special issues to come.

Background: The brainchild of Jennifer Niesslein and Stephanie Wilkinson, Brain, Child spent more than a decade growing under the nurturing care of its founders. The accolades kept coming with more Utne awards, a notable mention in Best American Essays 2002 and a 2003 Pushcart Prize.

"It was always my favorite magazine," said the new editor-in-chief. "I was always thinking of going back to the editorial side of the business." Within two weeks, the sale had been made to the magazine's new adoptive mother, and changes are already afoot.
