You need a website. You don’t need advanced coding experience to create one.

In this course, learn how to build a website using WordPress, one of the most popular and robust content management systems.

Through lectures, assignments, and interactive online discussions, you'll gain hands-on experience working within the open-source platform.

In this class, you will learn how to:

Install WordPress on your web hosting server with your own domain name
Use WordPress to publish pages, articles, and multimedia content like video or photos
Change the appearance of your site using WordPress themes, widgets, and simple CSS coding
Use WordPress plugins to improve your site navigation, enable Google Analytics, or optimize your site for search engines
Connect with the WordPress community to establish the authoirty of your business or personal brand

By the end of class, you will have:
A live WordPress website that you can maintain and update on your own.

Admission Requirements: Students should be prepared to sign up for a web hosting plan (less than $10 a month) and domain name (around $15 a year). If you already have a web host, please have your FTP server name, user name, and password ready. If you already have a WordPress site, please know your login information.

The online classroom has several components:

Lessons: Learn new skills through video-based lessons
Discussion: Join a weekly live, interactive discussion via IM and video
Assignments: Complete homework and receive instructor feedback
Forums: Exchange resources, meet peers, and ask your instructor questions

Maurice Cherry is creative principal at 3eighteen media, a small web design and consulting firm in Atlanta, GA. His client roster includes AT&T, WebMD, NASA, Grady Memorial Hospital, and the United Way. His expertise lies in web design, graphic design, social media, new media, and digital strategy.

Maurice has been the driving force behind over a dozen startups, most notably the Black Weblog Awards. He also serves as a new media consultant, having worked with small businesses, healthcare organizations, mayors, and senators. In 2010, Maurice was named one of Atlanta's "Power 30 Under 30" in the field of Science and Technology by the Apex Society, and named as one of HP's "50 Tech Tastemakers."
