This course is for those who want to live as a freelancer, but don't know how to get started. It will cover basic freelancing skills, from coming up with ideas to effectively pitching them -- in addition to managing your career.

In this class, you will learn how to:

  • Come up with salable freelance ideas
  • Find the best publication to target your pitch
  • Write compelling pitches and communicate with editors
  • Maintain relationships with editors to secure long-term work
  • Track your freelance expenses, ensure timely payments, and submit invoices

By the end of class, you will have:
Two pitch letters and a list of well-crafted, salable story ideas.

The online classroom has several components:
  • Lessons: Learn new skills through written lessons
  • Discussion: Join a weekly live, interactive discussion via IM and video
  • Assignments: Complete homework and receive instructor feedback
  • Forums: Exchange resources, meet peers, and ask your instructor questions
