Course Details

Reporting for television is not just about being on TV; it's about compelling storytelling with video and words and connecting with the viewer. As a journalist, you already know how to get the interview, telling a compelling, fair and balanced story, and working under deadlines. But how do you make it work for television? Whether you are interested in making a career switch from print or radio into TV, or if you just want to learn some on-camera presentation skills, this class will give you an overview of the world of TV news and what it takes to be an on-air reporter.

In this class, students can expect to learn:

  • The role of TV reporter, from packages to live shots
  • How to turn a print article into a television story
  • The difference between print and television pieces
  • How to deliver a good stand up, and other on-camera skills
  • What you honestly need to get started (voice lessons? a makeover?)
  • How to find a job in TV news
  • How to get a demo reel
  • How to get an agent

Testimonials

Thanks for offering the TV news reporting seminar! As a print journalist very serious about breaking into broadcast reporting, I gleaned extremely valuable information and advice from the class. Angela was a great instructor and a real inspiration. I have been networking with TV reporters/producers for months and have not gotten many of the straightforward tips and answers to my questions that Angela offered. -- Lauren Lyster, L.A.-based freelance write
