Worried your upcoming book won't get press? Spooked by tales of authors getting lost in the PR shuffle? Haunted by the specter of the flop book signing? Past your pub date and afraid the press party's over? Fantasizing about a publicist who works tirelessly just for you? If you leave it all to your publisher's PR department, which has dozens of books to promote, you set the stage for missed media opportunities, empty chairs at signings, and galleys on the give-away table. Take responsibility for your book's publicity by working with your publicist, and you will dramatically increase your chances of getting substantial press coverage regardless of what kind of book it is -- not to mention dramatically decreasing author angst. It's much easier than you think.

In this class, you will learn how to:

  • Craft the perfect media mailing list tailored to your book's needs
  • Write an effective press release
  • Get through to editors, writers and producers
  • Get the kind of endorsements that generate press
  • Make a press kit for you and your book
  • Craft your image in the media
  • Get your publisher's marketing department to spend money on you
  • Use a book tour to maximum advantage
  • Keep your book alive on the shelves by keeping it alive in the media
