PR pros need to be able to write lively, persuasive copy under tight deadlines. And, while press releases are important, you also need to be able to craft pitches, press plans, talking points, and social media items.

In this intensive workshop, you’ll get feedback from your instructor on how you can refine and tighten your prose, structure your work, and build a body of work. Whether you are a novice looking to create materials for a PR portfolio or a professional wanting to create or polish your work, you will leave this class with a professional portfolio and the skills to continue building it throughout your career.

In this class, you will learn how to:

  • Create a professional PR portfolio
  • Write a press release and press plan
  • Decide which items to include in your portfolio
  • Polish your writing to a professional level

By the end of class, you will have:

A PR portfolio including letters to the editor, op-eds, a press release and media alert, a press plan with a social media component, talking points, a pitch letter, and a PR resume.

Admission requirements:

This class is designed for students who have completed Public Relations or have proven writing and editing experience. Please apply with a letter of interest outlining your work experience.

Linda Marsicano is the former vice president of corporate communications with Playboy Enterprises. She has also worked in executive PR roles for Exelon Corporation as well as nonprofit professional societies including the American Society of Plastic Surgery. She is currently a freelance public and media relations consultant. Linda has prepped CEOs and board members for appearances on 20/20, Dateline NBC, The Today Show, CNBC's SquawkBox and other national programs. She has been quoted extensively in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Chicago Tribune and has appeared on-air as a company spokesperson.
