Romance was the top-performing category on best-seller lists in 2012 and has the largest share of the U.S. consumer market. It’s also leading the charge into digital formats. Romance is a big tent and stories come in all shapes and sizes, so whether you want to add mystery, thrills, sci-fi or a literary cast, romance can accommodate your tastes. This class will focus on the writing techniques and selling tools that will make your romance impossible for agents and editors to refuse.

You'll complete a working draft of your romance novel, all while receiving expert, personal feedback from one of the genre's stars. The goal of this class is to give writers the skills necessary to sell romance in today’s market.

In this class, you will learn how to:

  • Build emotional and sexual tension quickly and effectively
  • Create memorable characters that move inside interesting plots
  • Write sparkling dialogue that drives the plot, develops characters and heightens tension
  • Achieve satisfying character and story arcs
  • Build queries, synopses, and pitches to sell your work

By the end of class, you will have:

A working draft of your romance novel manuscript.
